Gearing Up For The Big Luau!

Phew! Is it me or has this been one hot summer? But it’s not over yet! I hear that the Activity Department is about to crank it up another notch next month in celebration of Assisted Living Week. That’s right! I can hardly believe that it’s that time again myself. Assisted Living Week is a nationally recognized week when we take time out to celebrate The Carolina Inn and provide a unique opportunity for residents, families, staff, volunteers, and the surrounding community to come together to bestow on our residents a wonderful event that shows them how much we care for and love them. In honor of this great week, we will be having our Luau! So dig out those lays from your trips to the Caribbean and get ready to luau! We will have two special performers that day. For the ladies, Don Ho “Elvis” will be in the house and for the men, my personal favorite, The Aloha Ka’nake O Hula Halau Dancers who will be hauling to our hearts’ content. On the menu, I have heard that they will have BBQ Ribs, Coconut Rum Chicken, Grilled Pineapple, Hawaiian Slaw, Fried Rice, Sautéed Roasted Vegetable, King’s Hawaiian Rolls and Tropical Dessert! Don’t be startled if you feel me brushing up against your legs under the table that day…I have made it my mission to keep the floor as clean and debris free as possible! The most exacting part of the event, and I’m sure that you will agree with me will be the OPEN BAR with signature Tropical Bahama Mama drinks! Mmmm….I’m getting thirsty just thinking about it! This is sure to be a wonderful event and what better place to have it than on our newly concreted lanai? Plenty of room, plenty of food, plenty of drinks and plenty of fun! Be sure to RSVP no later than September 15th. You can either mail your invitations back in or return it to the front desk when you stop by to visit. I’m so excited about this that I’ve already ordered by grass skirt. If anyone knows where I can get a coconut top, please let me know! :)

July's View From Below

After years of hanging around, I figured it was time to me to step up and make myself heard. I mean, after all, I do have the best hang out spot at The Carolina Inn…right below my mom, Nancy’s desk…and you know what that means…I get to hear everything! So, I have decided to write each and every one of you once a month to fill you in on everything that goes on while I am pretending to be asleep! *wink* *wink* As always, summer at The Carolina Inn has been a blast. My only complaint is that I haven’t gotten down to my swimsuit size yet; but all hope is not lost…we still have several weeks left. July has been such a wonderful month here at The Carolina Inn. Not only have I enjoyed nibbling on some great hors d’oeuvers at Happy Hour (which might account for inability to shed these extra pounds), but I have found my second favorite place to be…the new lanai! Have you seen it yet? If not, you should definitely make the trip downstairs! No matter how chaotic it gets upstairs, I know I can find peace and quiet, gather my senses and take a great nap on the cool, newly concreted patio level. The gurgling of the fountain combined with the beautiful plants makes for such a calming environment…guaranteed to rival any of those doggie grooming places. The residents seem to love it as well. Lots of times I am not alone down there. I think that the our family members enjoy getting their loved ones out there to get some fresh air…and it’s the perfect place to do so because it is shaded and you know how the sun makes me squint! I can’t help the wrinkles, but I’m trying to keep my crow’s feet down to a minimum at all costs. So, if you’re looking for a great place to relax, get some fresh air while staying out of the sun, the lanai is the place to be! And I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but wanted to tell you all that Cathy and the ladies in the Activities Department are planning some great activities down there as well….one of which will be our annual Assisted Living Week Celebration. This year we will be heading to the islands and celebrating in true Hawaiian fashion. More details to come, but I’ve already got my coconut top and grass skirt ready! Hope to see everyone soon! Please take the time to check out the new lanai. You won’t be disappointed! And be sure to stay tuned for next month’s….View From Below.
